The IT Principal, Salesforce Engineer is responsible for leading the architecture, design, development, implementation, and support of enterprise Salesforce solutions that enable critical business capabilities across the organization. This role serves as the senior technical leader for the Salesforce platform, providing strategic direction, technical governance, solution architecture, and hands-on leadership across Salesforce applications, integrations, and automation initiatives. The position partners closely with business stakeholders, architects, product owners, administrators, developers, and third-party vendors to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions using Salesforce technologies including Service Cloud, Health Cloud, Agentforce, and Platform capabilities. The IT Principal, Salesforce Engineer provides technical leadership for complex enterprise initiatives, establishes development standards and best practices, mentors technical resources, and ensures solutions align with organizational architecture, security, and compliance requirements.
This role is expected to maintain significant hands-on technical involvement, including development, code reviews, troubleshooting, proof-of-concept development, and implementation of complex Salesforce solutions. The individual must be comfortable balancing strategic architecture responsibilities with direct software engineering activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads architecture, design, development, and implementation of Salesforce platform solutions supporting enterprise business functions.
- Serves as the primary technical authority for Salesforce applications, integrations, and platform strategy.
- Designs scalable solutions utilizing Salesforce declarative capabilities, Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flow, APIs, and integration frameworks.
- Collaborates with business partners to translate business requirements into technical architecture and solution designs.
- Defines and enforces Salesforce development standards, coding standards, governance practices, and release management processes.
- Leads technical solution reviews and architecture reviews for projects impacting Salesforce and related applications.
- Designs and oversees enterprise integrations between Salesforce and internal/external systems using APIs, Azure Integration Services, Service Bus, APIM, middleware platforms, and event-driven architectures.
- Evaluates and recommends new Salesforce capabilities, products, and emerging technologies including AI and Agentforce solutions.
- Partners with enterprise architects to ensure Salesforce solutions align with broader technology strategy and architecture standards.
- Provides technical leadership and mentoring to Salesforce administrators, developers, engineers, consultants, and contractors.
- Supports DevOps practices including source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, code quality reviews, and release governance.
- Oversees testing strategies including unit testing, integration testing, performance testing, and user acceptance testing.
- Supports production implementation activities, operational support, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Leads technical estimation and solution planning efforts for strategic initiatives.
- Participates in vendor evaluation, solution selection, and platform roadmap planning.
- Maintains awareness of industry trends, Salesforce platform advancements, and healthcare technology best practices.
- Ensures Salesforce solutions maintain compliance with organizational security, privacy, regulatory, and data governance requirements.
- Designs, develops, and deploys complex Salesforce solutions utilizing Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flows, Platform Events, and Salesforce APIs.
- Performs hands-on development for strategic initiatives, complex integrations, proof-of-concept solutions, and high-priority production issues.
- Conducts peer code reviews and establishes coding standards and development best practices.
- Leads technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis of application and integration issues.
- Collaborates with developers and administrators to ensure consistent implementation patterns across the Salesforce platform.
- Develops reusable frameworks, components, accelerators, and integration patterns.
- Participates in sprint activities including development, estimation, backlog refinement, and technical design sessions.
- Performs performance tuning, scalability assessments, and platform optimization activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 10 years of enterprise application development experience.
- Minimum 7 years of Salesforce platform development, architecture, and implementation experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale Salesforce implementations and enterprise integration initiatives.
- Healthcare industry experience preferred.
- Experience designing and implementing Salesforce solutions supporting healthcare provider management, credentialing, network operations, member/provider services, and digital self-service experiences is strongly preferred.

- Deep expertise with Salesforce platform architecture and design principles.

- Experience designing scalable Salesforce data models and integrations.
- Experience utilizing Agentforce, Einstein AI, Data Cloud, or similar AI-driven Salesforce capabilities is highly preferred.
Integration and Cloud Technologies
- Experience designing and building REST and SOAP API integrations.
- Experience with Azure Integration Services including:
- Azure Service Bus
- Azure API Management (APIM)
- Azure Functions
- Logic Apps
- Event-Driven Architecture
- Experience integrating Salesforce with ERP, customer, provider, claims, or healthcare-related systems.
- Knowledge of authentication and identity technologies including OAuth, SSO, SAML, and OpenID Connect.
DevOps and Engineering Practices
- Experience using:
- Git
- Azure DevOps
- Copado (preferred)
- Gearset (preferred)
- Salesforce DX (SFDX)
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, and Kanban methodologies.
- Strong understanding of application lifecycle management, DevOps practices, and release governance.
