About the role

Healthie is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help plan and execute ambitious and impactful projects. If you're a tech-savvy pro with a passion for making a real impact, taking ownership, and diving into cross-functional projects, we would love to connect! In this position, you'll work with our agile team to build innovative 0-1 products and make key strategic architecture decisions. We're looking for a seasoned pro with strong technical skills, experience in healthcare infrastructure and early-stage startups, and a passion for mentorship and leading technical initiatives.

Responsibilities: What you’ll be doing and held accountable for:

Technical Leadership:

  • Architecting scalable and efficient solutions: Designing and building robust, scalable systems that meet current and future business needs.

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team: Offering expert advice and support to team members, fostering their growth and ensuring technical excellence.

  • Leading the design and implementation of complex systems: Taking charge of complex projects from conception through deployment, ensuring they meet high standards of performance and security.

  • Evaluating emerging technologies and making recommendations for adoption: Staying current with technological advancements and recommending tools and technologies that can enhance the organization’s capabilities.

  • High-Impact Hands-On Technical Contributions: Actively participating in the development process by writing and reviewing code, debugging issues, and implementing critical features.

Innovation and Problem Solving:

  • Driving innovation through research, experimentation, and prototyping: Exploring new ideas and technologies, developing prototypes, and evaluating their potential impact.

  • Identifying and solving complex technical challenges: Applying deep technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve intricate issues.

  • Continuously improving development processes and methodologies: Enhancing workflows and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Leading efforts to optimize performance, scalability, and reliability of systems: Ensuring that systems are robust, performant, and capable of scaling with business growth.

Shipping Products End-to-End:

  • Managing the full product lifecycle: Overseeing the process from ideation to launch, ensuring timely and successful delivery of products.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams: Working closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to align on goals and deliverables.

  • Ensuring high-quality releases: Implementing rigorous testing and quality assurance practices to ensure that products meet user needs and perform reliably in production.

  • Becoming a domain expert: Able to build true expertise and empathy around Healthie’s product and the customers that use it. Able to apply that towards building the best products possible.

At Healthie, we are AI-enabled and AI-accelerated in how we build. We are looking for team members who actively leverage AI-powered development tools, embrace automation, and help teams adopt modern, AI-assisted engineering practices to increase velocity and quality.

About you

  • You have a track record of success: 10+ years of relevant industry experience (healthtech/healthcare is a plus!) shipping applications to production environments.

    • Technical Expertise: Mastery in software development, system design, and coding with proficiency in Agile methodologies.

    • Specific Skills: Experience in cloud computing, DevOps, database management, scalable AI/ML models

    • Specializations: Proficiency in performance optimization, complex system architecture, and data processing.

    • Collaboration: Ability to work cross-functionally with PMs and Designers to drive innovation forward quickly and with quality.Emphasis on iterative development, feedback loops, and data-driven decision-making.

  • Building and Shipping: You excel at organizing input from stakeholders to define business objectives, translating these into actionable system requirements, and developing and executing technology roadmaps that drive results end to end..

  • You strive for Operational Excellence: Best practice experience with coding standards, refactoring, complexity reduction, Domain Driven Design, and schema design.

  • You bring hands-on experience: Tech leadership experience as well as experience with object oriented design and modularization of monolithic applications and have experience maintaining and upgrading Ruby and Rails-based production stacks.

Tools & Tech Experience: Our stack includes Rails, React, Typescript, and GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq, RSpec.

  • Pragmatic prioritization: Ability to prioritize platform needs to both short term and long term business needs. 

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills: You care about people - your colleagues, our customers, and everyone around you. People want to work for and with you. You lead with influence, not authority.

  • Remote Work: Ability to deliver in a remote-first environment, regularly contributing to code review, actively looking for security vulnerabilities, systematically debugging customer-facing issues, working comfortably with both greenfield and legacy systems, and helping grow a DevOps culture.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written & verbal.

  • Grit: You have a bias towards execution. You maniacally focus on getting the job done, and nothing slows you down.

  • This is a full-time, remote position within the United States

  • U.S. work authorization is required.

  • The salary range is $205,000 - $235,000.
