CodeWeavers careers: remote jobs, culture and where they hire
The employee-owned company behind CrossOver and the Wine project, running Windows software on macOS and Linux since 1996 and hiring remote C developers in the US or internationally.
What is CodeWeavers?
CodeWeavers is the company behind CrossOver, the commercial product that runs Windows applications and games on macOS, Linux and ChromeOS without a Windows license, and it is the main corporate sponsor and contributor to the open source Wine project that CrossOver is built on. Founded in 1996 in St. Paul, Minnesota by Jeremy White, it started as a consultancy and moved entirely into Wine development and support. Its engineers also work under contract for clients, most visibly with Valve on Proton, the Wine-based compatibility layer that powers Windows games on the Steam Deck and Linux desktop, and on the FEX emulator. Two other business lines, PortJump and ExecMode, cover porting apps and games to Mac and Linux and general hard-problem technical consulting.
In May 2023 CodeWeavers became one of the first US software companies to transition to an employee ownership trust: the CodeWeavers Employee Ownership Trust holds a controlling stake and will eventually become the sole shareholder, with a stewardship committee made up primarily of staff-elected members guiding the company. Founder Jeremy White stepped back as part of the transition, and longtime employee James Ramey was announced as CEO on May 22, 2023. The company describes itself, with a wink, as rebels, misfits and software liberators.
Who founded CodeWeavers
Jeremy White, Founder. Founded CodeWeavers in 1996 and ran it for 27 years, building it into the main corporate force behind Wine. In 2023 he sold his stake into the employee ownership trust he spent three years designing with Common Trust, saying he wanted the company run for staff and community rather than shareholder profit, and handed the CEO role to longtime employee James Ramey.
Where does CodeWeavers hire remotely?

Why CodeWeavers is exciting to work for
The work is rare: debugging and extending a massive codebase so that everything from AAA games to obscure Windows enterprise software runs on macOS and Linux, with your contributions flowing into CrossOver, upstream Wine and Proton. The current developer opening focuses on improving Wine's ability to run games on macOS, and FEX emulator work is also available. It is systems-level C programming where you routinely debug applications whose source code you do not have.
Since 2023 employees share in the company's profits through the employee ownership trust, which every full-time hire participates in, US or not. Published benefits for all regions include 20 days of PTO, 6 paid holidays, 5 additional company-wide closure days in December, paid family and medical leave, longevity rewards and a remote-first, no-set-hours flexible work environment; US employees additionally get health insurance, long-term disability, an HRA and an IRA with company matching.

What to expect from the culture
CodeWeavers keeps management lightweight and expects people to be self-motivated: the jobs page says you will not be handed a neatly packaged task list, and asks for people who can find their own work in an ever-evolving codebase. The tone is irreverent, the company describes colleagues as smart, sarcastic and collaborative, and the stated rhythm is "we work hard, go home on time and enjoy what we do."
The open source commitment is structural, not marketing: the company has funded and shepherded Wine for decades, and the 2023 trust transition formally commits it to operating for the benefit of customers, the open source community and staff rather than outside shareholders.

As of October 2026 the openings are a Wine Developer (St. Paul or remote, full-time) and an on-site Office Manager in St. Paul with a published $55,000 to $80,000 range.
The Wine Developer role asks for strong C skills (compilers, linkers, macros and function pointers), excellent debugging including of build systems, macOS development experience, and self-motivation; FEX emulator or CPU emulation experience, Win32 programming and prior open source contributions are bonuses.
