Who backs Confido Legal

Confido Legal has raised $9 million across two rounds, both disclosed together on February 26, 2026. The seed round in 2024 totaled a little over $2 million and was led by Context Ventures. The larger round closed in November 2025, led by Aquiline Capital Partners, a financial services focused investment firm with about $12 billion under management that also owns legal tech company SurePoint, with participation from The LegalTech Fund, Breakwater Ventures, Live Oak Bank and Context Ventures.

What is Confido Legal?

Confido Legal builds payment processing and disbursements infrastructure purpose-built for the legal industry. Law firms must keep client trust funds strictly separated from operating money under state bar and IOLTA rules, and generic processors were never designed for that. Confido's answer is a single GraphQL API plus ready-made UI components that let legal tech platforms (practice management tools like Clio Manage, Lawmatics, Lawcus, SmartAdvocate and Prima.Law, plus QuickBooks Online and NetSuite on the accounting side) embed compliant payment acceptance, trust account management and digital disbursements without building compliance, fraud prevention and underwriting themselves. As of 2026 the company reports more than 1,500 law firms in the US and Canada on the platform, mostly reached through those legal tech partners.

The company's history runs through Seattle's Gravity Payments, the processor famous for its $70,000 minimum salary. Gravity launched a legal-focused subdivision called Gravity Legal in February 2019; by 2023 it had its own identity and customer base and was spun out as an independent company, rebranding as Confido Legal in December 2023 (confido is Latin for "I trust", a nod to trust accounting). A growing focus is digital disbursements for plaintiff-side firms (personal injury, workers' compensation, mass tort), where settlement payouts still largely run on paper checks; Confido has a deal with the litigation platform Litify to power a branded disbursements offering.

Why Confido Legal is exciting to work for

This is a small, high-ownership engineering team where engineers lead whole domains (a 2026 posting described engineers owning security, underwriting and growth) while still writing product code daily. The Senior Engineer posting is explicit about the scope: ship and maintain features end to end, lead architecture and product design discussions, build automated end-to-end tests, work directly with marketing and sales, and participate in company strategic planning. Engineers also take part in UI/UX design work in Figma rather than handing it off.

The role is fully remote in the United States with roughly two onsite meetings per year, and the pay band is published: $175K to $225K base for the Senior Engineer role, plus open PTO and fully paid medical, vision and dental insurance. The business itself is the stable kind of fintech: payments volume from 1,500+ law firms, revenue since the Gravity Legal days, and fresh capital from a specialist financial services investor.

What to expect from the culture

Confido publishes four core principles on its about page: Impact Over Profit, Owners Mindset ("each team member is an owner"), Mutual Support, and Long-Term View. CEO Emery Wager has credited the spin-out period, when half as many people ran the business and "those people were foot to the fire, really motivated", with the company finding its footing quickly.

The team is small and flat: the about page lists 13 people across engineering, banking, risk and data science, sales, support and finance, including the four co-founders. Trust and compliance are treated as the product, not overhead; the company frames its job as taking responsibility for the ethical movement of client funds in and out of IOLTA accounts.

How to get hired at Confido Legal

As of October 2026 the careers site at https://careers.confidolegal.com lists two openings, both remote and full-time: Sr. Engineer (senior level, $175K to $225K base, posted February 26, 2026) and Operations Analyst - Risk (mid level, $85K to $105K base). There is no external ATS; applications go through the form on each posting, which asks for a resume and a cover letter addressing five published questions, including why Confido Legal, your ideal work environment, and what past managers would say about you.

For the Senior Engineer role, the bar is expertise in three or more of the published stack (TypeScript required) and 3+ years of engineering experience. The stack is TypeScript everywhere: React and Next.js on the frontend (mid-migration from older SPAs to Next.js), AWS deployed with Pulumi infrastructure as code, Docker and ECS, and a GraphQL external API.
