Desktop Commander careers: remote jobs, culture and where they hire

Desktop Commander builds an open source MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets AI models work directly on a user's own computer: managing files, running terminal commands, editing code and automating workflows, with no uploads required. The project has more than 9,000 stars on GitHub and is one of the most used MCPs on Smithery, the Docker MCP Hub and Claude's connectors marketplace. Founder Eduards Ruzga built the first version as a custom GPT in 2023, and it saw a sharp jump in adoption in 2025. In October 2025 it raised a €1.1 million pre-seed round led by German investor 42CAP, with participation from BADideas Fund, to grow the MCP user base and launch the paid product.

The one open engineering role is explicitly the company's first hire outside the three founders, with what the posting calls "meaningful ownership, impact, and upside from day one," including direct exposure to investor and customer conversations.

The product already has real usage to build on: thousands of daily active users and one of the most installed MCP servers in the ecosystem, so the work is shipping into an existing user base rather than searching for one.

The listed Senior Full Stack AI Engineer role paid EUR 4,500 to 6,500 gross per month depending on experience, with stock options granted after a trial period, on top of working full time with LLM APIs, streaming and the MCP protocol itself.

The company describes its culture as transparent, with the engineering hire getting direct exposure to investors and customers rather than being shielded from that side of the business. Its own listing says it looks for "driven, independent individuals focused on delivering measurable results and company growth."

The team is small and remote-friendly, based in Latvia and Portugal rather than distributed globally, reflecting a company that is still just past its founding trio.

Desktop Commander's engineering hiring bar centers on production experience: 5+ years building with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, hands-on work shipping LLM-powered features with providers like OpenAI or Anthropic, streaming APIs (SSE/WebSockets), and prompt engineering and context management. Electron desktop development, MCP experience, GCP and Docker are called out as pluses rather than requirements.
