LottieFiles has raised about $46M in three rounds. The seed, of undisclosed size, came from the Adobe Fund for Design and 500 Startups (via its Southeast Asia fund, 500 Durians) in April 2020. A $9M Series A in January 2021 was led by M12, Microsoft's venture fund, with 500 Startups returning, when the platform had about 1 million users from 65,000 companies and 300% year-over-year growth; the next month LottieFiles acquired Iconscout, a Surat, India design asset marketplace with 2.2 million assets, for an undisclosed sum, and kept it running as an independent platform. The $37M Series B in May 2022 was led by Square Peg Capital with XYZ Venture Capital, GreatPoint Ventures and Automattic, plus returning investors 500 Startups, M12 and Adobe, by which point users had grown to 3.1 million across 150,000 companies. No valuation has been disclosed.
LottieFiles is the platform for Lottie, the lightweight JSON animation format that started at Airbnb, and for dotLottie, the open container format LottieFiles created on top of it. The product spans the largest library of free and premium Lottie animations, a marketplace that pays creators 70% of earnings, plugins for Figma, After Effects, Webflow and Canva, open source players for web, iOS and Android, and Lottie Creator, a browser-based animation editor the company now calls "After Effects for the web". The site says it is trusted by more than 16 million designers and developers from over 280,000 companies, that 95% of the Fortune 500 build with Lottie, and names Google, Uber, Duolingo and Netflix among them.
The company started in 2017 as a weekend project: the founders built a small site in about eight hours to collect Lottie files from animator friends, ran it without a login system for two years, and reached the first thousand users by approving submissions by hand. The 2026 roadmap is AI and developer surfaces. Lottie Creator gained an MCP server in April 2026 so Claude, Cursor, Codex and 40+ other clients can build and edit animations directly in the editor, a Motion System for governing easing curves and brand assets shipped in June, and Lottie Creator 2.0 with Motion Copilot 2.0 (describe a scene, get editable shapes, keyframes and easing back), State Machines and a graph editor launched in July 2026, taking #3 Product of the Day on Product Hunt. dotLottie downloads grew 73x in 18 months to 33 million, and the Figma plugin passed 1 million installs in July 2026.

Nattu (Nasrullah) Adnan, CTO and co-founder. Maldivian product designer and developer with more than 20 years in tech, about ten of them in product design. Web developer at HaveeruOnline in Malé from 2006, then co-founded the design studio Semicolon, the Maldivian startup community Kickstart and the news site maldives.net.mv, before moving to Kuala Lumpur as Lead Product Designer at ServisHero (2016 to 2017) and Senior Product Designer at Mindvalley (2017 to 2019), where the LottieFiles side project became a company. LottieFiles owns a format, not just a product. The dotLottie spec, the ThorVG rendering engine that powers every official player on web, iOS and Android, and the Lottie players on npm are open source, so engineering work here ships to millions of apps rather than one. The Head of Graphics, Hermet Park, is the creator of ThorVG and a former Open Source Leader and Principal Engineer at Samsung R&D, and the R&D team that co-developed the engine behind Lottie Creator, Lottie Editor and Figma to Lottie works primarily in TypeScript and Python.
The current openings show where the company is spending: a Senior AI Engineer to fine-tune specialized models that generate a text-native Motion DSL directly (supervised fine-tuning, distillation, preference optimization, compiler-backed quality gates), a Senior Platform Engineer for the federated GraphQL gateway, and a Developer Marketer and Head of Growth to grow developer and agent workflows through product-led growth, which the Head of Growth posting defines against "brand theater" and "enterprise selling as a substitute for PLG".
Perks are the same for everyone regardless of country: the welcome kit includes a latest-spec MacBook, noise-cancelling headphones of your choice, swag and a home-office budget; the company pays for a gym membership and a co-working membership, provides medical insurance, and the learning budget for books, courses and mental fitness apps is unlimited. The careers page says salaries are "above-market comparable" and reviewed on performance and team contribution.
The careers page names five pillars: Sustained Performance ("concentrated focus hours and work-life balance"), Open and Candid communication ("a safe space for all, where feedback, challenges, and appreciation are encouraged at all levels"), Expression of Joy and Creativity, Passion for Learning and Sense of Ownership, and "We Lottie You", described as "a common phrase you will see across our company" that stands for gratitude, kindness, humility and co-elevation. The company states it takes its time finding people who fit, and the interview process treats culture fit as "just as important as your skills and expertise".
The founders chose to build the company from Asia on purpose. K Minglani told the Wild Digital SEA 2022 stage: "Look at the map. Where are the super apps today?", citing cost effectiveness, cultural diversity and community as the reasons the team set up in Malaysia. Employees describe a flat structure where founders are reachable; Sundar Sudandiraraj wrote after the 2022 retreat that LottieFiles "truly understands how to trust professionals with their skill sets and lets them manage their time effectively with a super flat structure." Nattu Adnan has told the story of handling a company rumor with a townhall that allowed anonymous questions, adding he might not do it again.
The honest counterweight comes from Ted Simonian Kordolia, who left the Plugins team in August 2026 after 21 months: priorities "keep changing", he "didn't get better at stopping pivots" but got better at handling them, and late-night scrambles did not disappear, though he learned to swap them for "honest talks about what we could actually deliver". Nobody assigned him the lead role; it formed around the behaviour once he started running planning and unblocking teammates.
LottieFiles publishes a 7-step process and runs it in an unusual order: the first interview is the Culture Interview with the People and Culture Lead, about who you are inside and outside work, your aspirations and preferences ("Come as you are"). Then a Hiring Manager Interview with your future Team Lead, a Project or Task Assessment depending on the role (a design process with mockups, a coding project, or similar) where feedback from future teammates is shared back with you, a Team Interview with people you would work alongside, a Reference Check where both of your two professional references are actually called, a Final Interview with either Kshitij or Nattu, and the Decision and Offer Letter with a contract by email. Signed offers trigger onboarding, an introduction to the team and a Welcome Kit; benefits and platform access are set up on day one.
Roles are posted on BambooHR (lottiefiles.bamboohr.com/careers) and skew senior: current postings ask for 5+ years (Senior Platform Engineer, Developer Marketer) or 8 to 12+ years (Head of Growth), hands-on LLM post-training experience for the Senior AI Engineer, and strong written English. Applications require acknowledging the privacy policy on the form.
LottieFiles does not print salary bands on its current postings. The one public data point is an October 2021 Senior Product Designer posting on Remote OK at $80,000 to $120,000 a year, open worldwide.
TypeScript and Node.js services behind a federated GraphQL gateway (Apollo Federation v2) with gRPC between services, an in-house authentication service with OAuth and SAML single sign-on for enterprise customers, and metrics, tracing and structured logging for observability. The rendering layer is ThorVG, a C++ vector graphics engine, and the R&D team works in TypeScript and Python. The AI generation system combines frontier language models with a text-native Motion DSL and compiler-backed validation.
Around 107 as of August 2026 according to LinkedIn, down about 8% from a year earlier. The team passed 100 after the 2021 Series A and was roughly the same size at the 2022 retreat, so headcount has been flat to slightly down for three years rather than growing with the product.
Free accounts for the animation library and community, paid individual and team workspaces (the team plan for commercial projects is listed at $24.99 a month billed annually), a Team+ tier priced on seats and usage, and enterprise contracts that add SOC 2 documentation, SSO, governance, unlimited viewer licenses and onboarding. The marketplace sells premium animations from creators, who keep 70% of earnings, and Iconscout runs as a separate design asset marketplace.
Not right now. All four open roles in September 2026 are senior, and there are no internship or junior listings on the careers site.
