Miris careers: remote jobs, culture and where they hire

3D streaming infrastructure that turns radiance fields into something you can stream like video.

Team of 74$26M SeedBacked by IAG Capital PartnersFully remote, hiring in the United States and several other countries

Who backs Miris

Miris launched from stealth on August 29, 2024 with a $26M seed round led by IAG Capital Partners, which the Los Angeles Business Journal, citing PitchBook, called the largest round in the spatial systems space since 2015. IAG partner Joel Whitley framed the bet as streaming being the only way spatial computing reaches mass adoption. The company's team page says the March 2026 public beta followed a Series A, but no amount, date or investor has been published and the company still lists $26M as total funding elsewhere. The legal entity behind the Miris trademark is Illuscio, Inc., a Culver City company set up as a sister company to the storage vendor OpenDrives.

What is Miris?

Miris is a 3D streaming platform for developers. You upload a 3D asset (OpenUSD today, glTF as of July 2026, up to 10GB per file), Miris conditions it once on CoreWeave GPUs into a proprietary radiance field representation, and the result streams to browsers, phones and XR headsets with the client pulling only the data a given device and network can use. The pitch is CDN economics for 3D: no per-viewer GPU servers, pay for what you stream, and the company says 1GB source assets load about as fast as a 5MB glTF, with sub-second time to interaction.

The public beta opened on March 24, 2026 after a private beta in January, with a web SDK (Three.js supported but not required), a REST API and a CLI; Unity, Unreal Engine and NVIDIA Isaac Sim integrations are on the roadmap and general availability is targeted for later in 2026. Early integrations include Playbook (browser-based 3D asset review), Voxel51's FiftyOne (streaming large driving datasets for physical AI), Tapcart and Cavrnus, and the site lists NVIDIA, AWS, CoreWeave and the Academy Software Foundation as partners. Target markets are retail and e-commerce product visualization, media and entertainment, architecture, and robotics and physical AI.

Who founded Miris

Marlin Prager, CEO and co-founder. CFO of Legendary Entertainment, where he joined in 2005 as SVP of finance, was promoted to CFO in 2012 and stayed through the studio's sale; later CFO of OpenDrives after becoming a partner there in 2015. Earlier he founded the digital dailies company Sample Digital in 2001 (sold to Prime Focus), was a partner at W2 Films, and worked in entertainment finance at Houlihan Lokey and Price Waterhouse; he credits over $10 billion of M&A, equity and debt transactions. B.A. with College Honors from UCLA and an MBA from UCLA Anderson.

Jeff Brue, Co-founder. Co-founded the Hollywood storage company OpenDrives in 2011 and built the first studio 6K pipeline with David Fincher and Fox for Gone Girl, then co-founded Illuscio, the sister company that became Miris, with Prager. He died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in March 2019 at 37; the company says its spatial streaming work continues "inspired by Jeff's groundbreaking vision".

Sean Looper, Founding CTO. Nearly 30 years in VFX, animation and cloud: started as an animator and VFX TD (Zathura at Digital Dimension), led real-time streaming graphics and HPC at DreamWorks Animation, worked at Sony Pictures Imageworks, and was a Software Development Manager at AWS where he launched a Tier-1 service for real-time graphics compute. Contributed to more than 60 films, sat on the Academy Software Foundation Technical Advisory Council (2019 to 2022), and holds U.S. patent 11328470 on distributed multi-context interactive rendering. Studied architectural design in college and joined Miris around 2023.

Where does Miris hire remotely?

Miris is a fully remote company headquartered in Culver City, California with team hubs in the United States and New Zealand, and it hires in several countries: its staff today work from the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil and Croatia. Most engineering roles are posted worldwide, while some US-facing roles such as product communications are US only, and benefits vary by country.

Why Miris is exciting to work for

Miris is applied research with a product attached: the graphics and R&D postings are about taking Gaussian splatting and radiance field papers from prototype to production and rendering them in real time on low-powered mobile and VR hardware, and the applied researcher role explicitly covers "where to push beyond the bleeding edge". CTO Sean Looper presented the streaming-OpenUSD thesis at SIGGRAPH 2026 and walked through live customer integrations spanning asset management, physical AI, e-commerce and advertising, all running on the same pipeline. If you want to work on neural rendering that ships rather than a paper deadline, there are few companies of this size doing it.

The team is small, senior and comes from the studios and clouds that built the current 3D pipeline: DreamWorks, Sony Pictures Imageworks, AWS and Unity among the leadership, and the careers page describes backgrounds in "streaming infrastructure, game engines, and creative tools". Looper says the founding idea was "building a product that we ourselves would want and that's still true", and that the team underestimated how much the platform would also make 3D "easy and approachable for the inexperienced developer".

Pay bands are printed on every posting and are wide enough to cover a real senior, and benefits include a technology stipend, a wellness stipend, home office setup, connectivity support, parental leave and an annual budget for conferences and courses.

What to expect from the culture

The careers page sums the team up in six words: "Small, senior, globally distributed" and "Async-first and quality-obsessed." Every posting opens with the same expectation: "Building something ambitious requires focus, resilience, and a willingness to take on challenging work," followed by a request for people "energized by complex problems". The stated values are "thoughtful collaboration, accountability, and trust" and an "ownership mindset", which the company ties directly to giving everyone equity.

Miris is still early: the product was in private beta until January 2026 and public beta through the summer, and the company says onboarding happens "in waves". Built In's 2026 summary of the public materials reads it as high ownership and remote flexibility on one side and "early-stage ambiguity", shifting priorities and launch-driven pushes on the other, with no published career ladder or promotion path.

How to get hired at Miris

Miris hires through Greenhouse and does not publish its interview stages. Applications ask for a resume, an optional cover letter, LinkedIn and a portfolio or GitHub link. The careers page invites speculative applications through a General Interest posting when no role fits.

The bar is senior across the board: Backend Engineer asks for 7+ years and production Go, the Senior SRE for 7+ years, the Developer Integrations Engineer for 4+ years plus hands-on OpenUSD, glTF, FBX and DCC tool integration, and the Applied Researcher for an MS or PhD in computer science or a related field or equivalent experience. Graphics roles are open at all levels but require production-quality C++ and Python. A 2026 Rendering Engineering Manager posting was "Remote, US East Coast strongly preferred", so timezone fit can matter for lead roles.

Miris hiring FAQ

How much does Miris pay?

Miris publishes a base range on every posting. As of September 2026: Backend Engineer (Senior+) and Senior Site Reliability Engineer $102,693 to $287,488; Software Engineer, Graphics and R&D (all levels) and Applied Researcher (all levels) $89,155 to $287,488; Developer Integrations Engineer $89,155 to $148,368; Product and Technical Communications Lead $150,000 to $180,000. US employees also get medical, dental and vision, an FSA and a 401(k).

What is Miris's tech stack?

Go for the backend and API layer of the multi-tenant streaming service; C++ and Python for the renderer and radiance field research (Gaussian splatting, NeRF-style tools, ML for graphics); a web SDK that works with React, Vue or vanilla JavaScript on top of Three.js, WebGL and WebGPU; OpenUSD as the ingest format with MaterialX and OpenPBR in the pipeline; AWS Fargate, CoreWeave, Kubernetes, Terraform, Prometheus and Grafana on infrastructure; and SOC 2, GDPR and ISO 27001 monitoring on the compliance side.

Does Miris sponsor visas?

Miris has no published sponsorship policy. Every application asks whether you are legally authorized to work in the country you intend to work from and whether you will now or in future need Miris to sponsor, transfer or support your work authorization, so the answer is decided case by case rather than ruled out.

Does Miris hire junior engineers or interns?

No internships are listed. Graphics and applied research roles are open at all levels, which is the closest thing to an entry point, but they still require production-quality C++ and Python; backend, SRE, business development and communications roles all ask for 7+ years.

How does Miris make money?

Miris charges for what you stream, priced against bandwidth rather than GPU time, through self-serve accounts or enterprise order forms with monthly or upfront subscription fees and usage-based charges. During the 2026 public beta access is free with unlimited uploads, 5 high-fidelity processing credits a month and 1,000 views per account per month before watermarking.

Who runs Miris?

Beyond the founders, the executive team is Will McDonald as Chief Strategy Officer (joined February 2025 as Chief Product Officer after running Accelerated Production at AWS and serving as VP of Engineering at Unity), Max Leitman as CFO and General Counsel, Doug Smith as Chief Revenue Officer after more than five years at AWS, Erik Smith as SVP of Business Development and Bryan Saftler as VP and Head of Marketing.
