Sam Blackshear, Co-founder and former CTO (left for Anthropic in August 2026). Creator of the Move language, which he designed from the ground up over nearly six years as a principal engineer at Meta for Libra/Diem. Before that, five years of academic research on static analysis for security and performance at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he earned a Ph.D. in programming languages. Announced on August 5, 2026 that he was "leaving Mysten Labs and joining Anthropic to work on defensive security research", staying on as an adviser to Sui builders and the Move Foundation.
Adeniyi Abiodun, CPO and co-founder. Product lead at Novi Financial for nearly three years, driving Diem and Move work. Earlier Head of Product for Blockchain at VMware and architect for blockchain cloud platforms at Oracle, and co-founder of PeerNova, a fintech using blockchain for enterprise data integrity. Before crypto he built financial applications and cloud architectures at HSBC and J.P. Morgan. B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Queen Mary University of London.
Kostas Chalkias, Chief Cryptographer and co-founder. Lead cryptographer at Meta from 2019, covering Diem, the Novi wallet and payment encryption with WhatsApp, and before that lead cryptographer and blockchain engineer at R3 in London, where he worked on Corda and, with Mike Hearn, on the first real-world deployment of a quantum-safe signature scheme. Author of more than 50 papers and eight US patents (Hashwire range proofs, Winterfell ZKP, EdDSA aggregation), a white hat who has exposed flaws in exchange solvency proofs, and a professor of Web3 security at the American University of Sharjah. B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Security and Cryptography from the University of Macedonia.
George Danezis, Chief Scientist and co-founder. Professor of Security and Privacy Engineering at University College London since 2013 (part-time since founding Mysten), previously a researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge (2007 to 2013) and a Turing Institute faculty fellow. Co-founded Chainspace, a sharded smart contract platform acquired by Facebook in February 2019, then served as a director-level research scientist at Novi designing privacy-preserving payments for Diem until July 2021. Co-designed Sui and the Narwhal and Tusk consensus protocols. B.A. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, supervised by Ross Anderson. Based in London.
