Who backs People Data Labs

People Data Labs has raised about $55.5M over six rounds, the last of them in 2021. A $500,000 pre-seed in June 2015 and seeds of $775,000 in February 2016 and $2.2M in August 2016 (led by Susa Ventures) were followed by an 8VC-led Series A in April 2017, a $7M Series A led by Founders Fund in October 2018, and a $45M Series B on November 16, 2021, led by Craft Ventures with Flex Capital participating. Craft co-founder Jeff Fluhr joined the board with that round and Flex's Auren Hoffman, the SafeGraph CEO, stayed on as an adviser; Flex Capital's own write-up of the deal describes it as priced at a $300M pre-money valuation. The company had raised about $10M before the Series B, was 80 people at the time and said it would double headcount in 2022. No revenue figures are public. When the founders handed the CEO role to Ben Eisenberg in September 2024, Sean Thorne wrote that "it was important to us that we have the right person to take PDL to $100M ARR and beyond."

What is People Data Labs?

People Data Labs (PDL) sells people, company, IP and job posting data to developers through APIs and bulk data licenses. Its site advertises 1.5 billion unique person profiles, and the September 2026 dataset release (v35.2) counts 76.6 million company records and 46.2 million job postings, 7 million of them active, after a deduplication pass that cut duplicate LinkedIn profiles by 65% and removed about 40 million sparse records. Customers build on the data rather than pull lists from it: recruiting platforms, AI model training, fraud and identity checks, investment research and marketing audiences. Sean Thorne put it to VentureBeat in 2021: "most of our customers use our data to build and expand their products, rather than to pull lists of sales contacts."

The company started in 2015 as TalentIQ, a recruiting data product, and pivoted to selling the data engine underneath. It now says it has thousands of customers, each with at least one engineer looking at the data, which its data team describes as 10x the size of its own engineering team. Published customer stories include Madison Logic, which enriched 13 million profiles in 30 days after moving to PDL and raised its data throughput 5x, credit risk platform Credit Pulse, and fund-intelligence firm Old Well Labs; VentureBeat named IBM, Kleiner Perkins and The Home Depot as customers in 2021. The data is also distributed through the Databricks Marketplace, the Snowflake Marketplace and AWS Data Exchange, and in March 2026 PDL became the contact data layer behind Rox's autonomous sales agents.

Who founded People Data Labs

Sean Thorne, Co-founder, CEO 2015 to 2024. Dropped out of the University of Oregon in 2012 to start Hallspot, a Groupon-style app for college students, then co-founded TalentIQ in March 2015 and turned it into People Data Labs. Stepped down as CEO in September 2024 and now runs Agentscore, an AI agent evaluation startup, works on business development at M37 Ventures and is president of The Copernican Project.

Henry Nevue, Co-founder, President 2015 to 2024. Studied computer science at the University of Oregon and led TalentIQ's product engineering team from 2015, later serving as President (some directories list him as CTO). Stepped back from day-to-day work alongside Thorne in September 2024.

Ben Eisenberg, CEO since September 2024, called the "unofficial third founder" by the company. Interned at art-collection software company Collectrium before joining PDL as an intern in May 2017 while a freshman at UC Berkeley. B.A. from UC Berkeley (2019) with a double major in Computer Science and History; his senior thesis was on the Vitruvian revival in Elizabethan England. Based in New York.

Why People Data Labs is exciting to work for

PDL is a small team behind a lot of other companies' products. Roughly 90 people maintain datasets that power hiring tools, fraud checks, credit models and AI agents at thousands of customers, and the engineering postings say the point is to build "standalone data products that enable data teams and independent developers to create innovative solutions at massive scale." The current Data Acquisition role is web crawling and distributed ingestion at internet scale; the Full Stack role owns the self-serve product and the tools the customer success team runs on.

Careers here can move unusually fast. Ben Eisenberg answered a post from Sean Thorne in the Berkeley Investment Group in May 2017 as a freshman, took an Uber to the company's loft office in San Francisco, got an internship the next day, and held six different positions in five years (technical analyst, data engineer, data pipeline engineer, lead solutions architect, product manager, director of product) before becoming VP of Innovation and then CEO. The company credits that path to "a high level of trust engrained in the culture at PDL," and Eisenberg says he places people by skills and performance rather than resume credentials.

On RepVue, sales reps rated PDL's base compensation in the 92nd percentile and its incentive structure in the 95th percentile of software companies (2023).

What to expect from the culture

The stated expectation is "extreme ownership with a 'one-team, one-dream' mindset." Engineering postings add: "We like our engineers to be thoughtful, quirky, and willing to fearlessly try new things. Failure is embraced at PDL as long as we continue to learn and grow from it." The priority order is written down too: "People, Customers, Shareholders, in that order, sets us up for success and delivering on our promises."

Leadership talks about delegation and meritocracy rather than heroics. Eisenberg on the Shift & Thrive podcast (April 2025): "Listening and allowing other people to solve problems is a key aspect of leadership. You're never going to be a successful leader if you have to solve every problem yourself." Thorne's account of hiring him as an intern captures the type they look for: "It was very clear that Ben was exactly the type of crazy person who was a perfect fit for our company, and we gave him an internship the next day."

Employees describe trust and a well-run revenue org, with career growth as the weak spot. A three-year Glassdoor reviewer: "Leadership promotes a culture of trust and empowerment of their employees to take ownership of their work... Growth has been carefully planned and not haphazard, resulting in very strategic hires." The most-cited cons on Glassdoor are management and career progression, and a 2023 Indeed review says "Great work culture except for a few bad apples in management." In August 2026 COO Shane Price took the entire operations team (finance, IT, privacy, HR, revops, enablement and marketing) to Anacortes, Washington for a "no work" Ops-site, writing: "In my own ops career, I often felt overlooked and underappreciated in my roles... I didn't want it to feel that way at People Data Labs."

How to get hired at People Data Labs

Applications go through the postings on Ashby. Engineering roles carry a warning that "with the rise of fake applicants and AI-enabled candidate fraud, we have built in additional measures throughout the process to identify such candidates and remove them," and the postings state "No C2C, 1099, or Contract-to-Hire. Recruiters need not apply." The bar is senior: 5 to 7+ years and 4+ years of production Python for Full Stack, 7+ years of backend or infrastructure work for Data Acquisition, 2 to 3 years plus Salesforce admin experience for Revenue Operations. Every posting screens for the same remote habits: working independently, unblocking yourself, strong written communication in Slack and documents, writing technical design docs, and scoping projects into milestones. Mentoring other engineers is expected on the senior roles.

Candidates report fast, humane handling. One designer wrote in 2020 that he heard back 20 minutes after applying, had a 20-minute Zoom screen that afternoon and a 15-minute call with the head of marketing the next morning, then a rejection 10 minutes after that call. A 2025 applicant posted the rejection note he received when a role was filled, calling it "empathetic and respectful." On Comparably, two thirds of employees rated the interviews difficult (2024). Postings carry the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance and California Fair Chance Act notices, so applicants with arrest or conviction records are considered.

People Data Labs hiring FAQ

How much does People Data Labs pay?

As of September 2026: Senior Software Engineer, Data Acquisition $160,000 to $200,000; Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack $160,000 to $180,000 depending on level; Revenue Operations Specialist $140,000 to $155,000. All three include stock, medical, dental and vision, and the Revenue Operations posting adds a 401(k). Ranges are stated as base salary.

What is People Data Labs' tech stack?

PDL calls itself "a Python shop primarily": Python backends (Django, FastAPI or Flask style REST APIs) on PostgreSQL, with React and TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind CSS and Vercel on the front end. The data side runs on Spark and Databricks, Kafka, SQS and Airflow for orchestration, Snowflake-class warehouses, parquet and Delta Lake storage, and AWS by preference. The Data Acquisition team writes crawlers in Python, Go or Rust and lists red-team experience as a nice to have. The revenue team runs Salesforce with CPQ, outbound and conversational intelligence tools.

How does People Data Labs make money?

PDL sells data access by credit. A free Testing tier gives up to 100 records a month with contact fields obfuscated, a Self-Serve tier starts at $98 a month (or $940 a year) for 350 person enrichment credits with contact data included, and a Bulk Data tier with all fields, data license feeds and an account team is priced by sales on annual contracts. Volume discounts trigger automatically as usage grows.

Where does People Data Labs get its data?

PDL combines thousands of compliantly sourced datasets and runs a data co-op: customers contribute data back, so each new client refines the shared dataset, and fixes reported by any one customer improve it for all of them. Job posting data is scraped directly from company career pages rather than job boards to avoid stale and duplicate listings, with 278 million jobs verified and 723,000 job changes tracked in one quarter of 2025.

Does People Data Labs hire interns or junior engineers?

Not currently. There are no internship listings, although the current CEO was hired as a college intern in 2017 and a 2023 Indeed reviewer described starting on smaller tasks and side projects with a well-organized onboarding.
