Who backs Postscript

Postscript has raised just over $100 million. A $4.5M seed round in December 2019 came from Y Combinator, Accomplice and 1984 Ventures, the company skipped a Series A, and a $35M Series B in March 2021 was led by Greylock's Mike Duboe with former Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald joining as an investor. A $65M Series C on 15 June 2022 was led by Dick Costolo's 01 Advisors with Twilio Ventures, Expanding Capital and m]x[v Capital, plus existing investors Greylock, Accomplice, Elephant and OpenView; at that point the merchant base had grown from 3,500 to more than 8,500 brands in a year, headcount from 61 to 230, and revenue had more than doubled. Sacra, a third-party research firm, estimates a $636M valuation from the 2022 round and about $78M in ARR for 2023. In July 2023 Postscript bought a majority stake in Fondue, a cashback app for Shopify brands whose three co-founders joined the team, and Forbes has named Postscript a Next Billion-Dollar Startup.

What is Postscript?

Postscript is an SMS marketing and conversational commerce platform for Shopify merchants, used by more than 20,000 Shopify and Shopify Plus stores including Brooklinen, Ruggable, True Classic and Dr. Squatch. Merchants use it to grow a subscriber list with on-site popups, send campaigns, build automations in Flow Builder, and run two-way text conversations, and Y Combinator's company page says the platform generates over $2 billion a year in ecommerce revenue for its merchants. The company started in 2018, went through Y Combinator's W19 batch, and by 2022 was sending 30 to 40 million texts on a peak day like Memorial Day against a 5 to 10 million daily average.

The product has widened beyond plain SMS. Postscript AI includes Infinity Testing, which generates and tests 100 or more variations of a single message, and Shopper, an AI-driven one-to-one marketing journey; a managed service, Postscript Plus, pairs the platform with human strategists and a team of sales associates who text with shoppers, described in a 2024 Greylock profile as about 50 associates working 7am to 10pm, seven days a week. Fondue, acquired in July 2023, adds CashBack offers as an alternative to discount codes, and a 2026 Director of Email Deliverability posting shows the company building an email product alongside SMS.

Who founded Postscript

Adam Turner, CEO and co-founder. Studied physics at the University of Southern California, taught himself to program, and was a product manager at StackCommerce before starting Postscript in 2018 with his brother Colin and StackCommerce colleague Alex Beller. The idea began as a side project when a friend agreed to pay $50 a month for an SMS app if Adam built it; he has said the real-time feedback "got me addicted to startups". Based in Carbondale, Colorado, and a columnist for Inc. and Adweek.

Alex Beller, President and co-founder. Runs revenue and people operations. Previously Director of Business Development at StackCommerce, where he worked with Adam Turner. University of Southern California, where he studied philosophy and the music industry. Based in New York.

Colin Turner, Co-founder. Adam Turner's brother, describes himself as a "full-stack business nerd" and was Postscript's COO at the time of the 2021 Series B. Previously a systems architect at Integrate, the Phoenix marketing software company. B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. Based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Why Postscript is exciting to work for

Pay is printed on every posting and is the same wherever you live: the benefits block on engineering roles states "we do not have geo based salaries". Health, dental, vision and life insurance come with 100% of the employee premium covered, plus a 401(k), a new Mac and a wellbeing marketplace where earned points convert into swag, fitness, groceries or travel. Forbes has listed Postscript among America's Best Startup Employers.

The engineering problems are at real scale. The Messaging Channels team owns the campaign send engine and Flow Builder that every product ships through, and a 2026 Staff Platform Engineer posting describes Acorn, a next-generation CDP and messaging platform of about 52 Rust and Python services on EKS built for 500,000 events a second across 20,000 merchants, where deploys, migrations and drift reconciliation are encoded as runbooks that AI agents execute and the engineer's job is to design the guardrails. Senior Backend Engineer postings ask for "AI-first coding practices" and Business Development postings expect AI tools for prospect research, so the company is explicit that it wants people who already work that way.

People who have stayed describe ownership rather than process. Christine Donnelly, a Senior Machine Learning Engineer since 2020, says on the careers page: "You'll never be bored at Postscript. It's a high-ownership, fast-moving team full of smart people all pulling toward the same goal." Nieve Rodriguez, a Senior Principal Business Development Representative since 2022, says she "was empowered to make a real impact from day one".

What to expect from the culture

Five values, written as the acronym FEACH, frame decisions and hiring, and quarterly awards go to people who embody them. Fearless: "We take bold bets. We speak truth, challenge ideas, and make courageous decisions." 80/20: "Get to 80% of the value in 20% of the time, then ship it, then learn from it and iterate." Animal: "We have hustle. We take initiative, move fast, and find scrappy ways to win." Customer-first: "We obsess over delivering value to our customers, even when it's hard." Humility: "We check our egos. We're coachable, reflective, and put the team over self."

The about page says the team is "made up of Stanford PhDs, college drop outs, and everything in between", calls the culture "highly entrepreneurial" and claims "our competitive advantage is that we care, a lot". Evan Romano, a Senior Prompt Engineer since 2021, puts it as "a company filled with smart individuals who care deeply about the outcomes of our customers and the value we provide for them." Postings repeat the same emphasis: the Senior Backend Engineer role is described as high-autonomy work that "demands independent investigation, strong technical design instincts, and the ability to move fast without sacrificing system health".

How to get hired at Postscript

Postscript posts roles on Greenhouse and on its Y Combinator page, and every listing is remote. A candidate summary on Indeed from 2020 describes the process as "Intro, homework, meeting the founders and team, values, references", and Glassdoor reports an average of 19 days from application to hire across 62 submitted interviews (2026). Every posting ends with the same line: "You are welcome here. Postscript is an ever-evolving place of equal employment for talented individuals."
