Senior Cloud Engineer
Crosswalk Health
Transforms 911 pre-hospital care via partnerships, needs-matched services.
Describe your next role, cut the noise
Company Description
911 is the front door to American healthcare — and for millions of people, it's the wrong one. Americans place an estimated 240 million calls to 911 every year, and roughly 70–80% of EMS responses end in an ambulance ride to the emergency department — even when the patient doesn't need emergency-level care. The system was built to transport, not to navigate.
Crosswalk Health is building the navigation layer 911 was never designed to have. We partner with first responder agencies, community providers, and payors to route patients in crisis to the right care, in the right setting, at the right time.
EMS is one of the most critical entry points in healthcare, and one of the most underutilized. We're changing that — aligning incentives across payors and providers to drive down costs at every level of the system, improve outcomes, and get high-needs populations the care they actually need.
About the Role
Every day, people in crisis call 911. Many of them don't need an emergency room. They need the right care, in the right setting, at the right time. Instead, they're transported to ERs, costs compound, and outcomes suffer.
We're seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to own our AWS environment and infrastructure as code. This is a true zero-to-one opportunity on a lean engineering team, where you'll build the system rather than inherit it.
This is not a role for someone who wants a finished playbook to execute. You'll make real calls on how things get built, work alongside engineers at the top of their craft, and help shape how we use AI responsibly in a healthcare environment.
If you want to build something that meaningfully changes how care gets delivered, and you want your AI-native skills to get sharper rather than rustier, keep reading.
Reports to: Director of Engineering
What You'll Do
Own Our AWS Environment: Architect, administer, and evolve our cloud infrastructure on AWS, with reliability, security, and performance in mind.
Build Infrastructure as Code: Define and maintain our infrastructure through code so environments are repeatable, reviewable, and easy to reason about.
Be AI-Native, Without Cutting Corners: Use AI tools to move faster while holding the line on the engineering fundamentals that keep software safe in production, don't break other systems, and stay understandable to humans.
Help Define Responsible AI Autonomy: Work with the team to figure out how to give AI more autonomy with the right guardrails and assurances in place. This is thought leadership you rarely get outside of your own side projects.
Make Real Technical Calls: Shape architecture and tooling decisions on a team small enough that your judgment matters.
Partner Across the Department: Work closely with our senior engineers and technical leaders on systems that handle sensitive healthcare data.
What We're Looking For
Requirements:
Senior-Level Cloud Experience: 4-8 years of experience in cloud or infrastructure engineering.
AWS Depth: Hands-on experience administering AWS environments, not just using them. We're an AWS shop, so this is a must.
Infrastructure as Code: Strong experience defining and managing infrastructure through code.
AI-Native Mindset: Comfortable using AI as a core part of how you work, and clear about where human judgment and engineering rigor still have to stay in the loop.
Production Fundamentals: A track record of shipping software and infrastructure that is safe to run in production.
Ownership Mentality: Comfortable in an early-stage environment where you'll make decisions and build process as you go.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in healthcare, health tech, or another environment with sensitive data and compliance requirements.
