Describe your next role, cut the noise

Board Intelligence is a technology and advisory firm on a mission to make boards more effective, and through them, build better businesses and benefit society.

Over twenty years we have established ourselves as the market leader in governance and board effectiveness, trusted by more than 80,000 directors, executives, and governance professionals globally, including across the Fortune 500, FTSE 100, and OMX 30. That trust has been earned through depth of insight, rigorous advisory work, and a track record that newer entrants simply cannot replicate.

We have invested in applied AI since 2020, well ahead of the market, and that early conviction has paid off. Our AI-powered platform and smart board advisor give us a competitive advantage that is widening, not narrowing. In 2024, K1 Investment Management, the leading B2B Enterprise SaaS investor, backed us to accelerate that position further. We are now growing fast, with a proven commercial model spanning both mid-market and enterprise, and a product suite that has become a necessary addition in high-stakes board environments.

The people joining us now will shape how we scale. We are deliberate about how we do that. Our founders and leadership team are deeply invested in keeping the culture that got us here: thoughtful, high calibre, and genuinely human. Ambition and balance are not in competition at Board Intelligence.

If you want to work at the intersection of AI and governance, on problems that matter at the highest level, this is a strong place to be.

Our Mission

We unleash the potential of organisations through the science of board effectiveness, building better businesses and benefitting society.

The Role

Board Intelligence is growing fast, and our engineering team is at the centre of that growth. We are building AI-powered products for some of the most demanding clients in the world, and we need exceptional leaders to help us do it.

We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to join our engineering leadership team. At Board Intelligence, engineering leaders are also hands-on builders: you will lead and grow a team while staying technical and contributing to our products.

This role needs real seniority. We are looking for someone who coaches and mentors naturally, sets high standards and brings people with them. You will combine broad technical knowledge with deep expertise in at least one area.

Main Responsibilities
  • Be part of our engineering leadership team, driving continuous improvements to our software delivery culture and strategy.
  • Stay hands-on, writing code and building products within one of our pods.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, helping them grow and contributing to clearer career paths across engineering.
  • Shape technical architecture and key decisions with the CTO and other engineering leaders
  • Hire and develop strong engineers as the team grows
  • Champion AI-assisted engineering that is built on solid fundamentals
  • Work closely with product and the wider business to deliver what our clients need

Person Specification

We are looking for an outstanding engineering leader: technically strong across a broad range, with deep expertise in at least one area, and someone engineers want to work for.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive software engineering experience, including a proven track record of leading engineering teams.

  • Hands-on technical ability, with recent experience writing production code

  • A track record of coaching, mentoring and growing engineers

  • Broad technical knowledge across the stack, with deep expertise in at least one area

  • Strong system design and architecture skills

  • Clear, confident communication and the ability to influence at all levels

  • Experience using AI coding tools, and a view on how they change the way teams work

  • Fluent written and spoken English

Nice to haves

  • Experience in a high-growth B2B SaaS company

  • Experience building for enterprise clients, ideally in regulated industries

  • Experience designing career frameworks or engineering levels

  • Experience leading remote or distributed teams

What good looks like in this role

  • After three months: you know your team, our products and our clients, you have built trust, and you are contributing code

  • After six months: your team is delivering consistently to a higher standard, and you are helping to hire and grow engineers

  • After twelve months: you are a trusted leader across engineering, your team is strong and growing, and you are shaping the direction of engineering at Board Intelligence
