- Take ownership of the electrical design and engineering deliverables for high-capacity data center campuses, including utility service, HV substations, MV distribution, transformers, backup generation, BESS/UPS, and electrical distribution to the data center load.
- Own the design and technical review of HV substations and utility interconnections, including substation one-lines, bus configurations, transformer sizing, breaker and switchgear selection, grounding, protection and control, metering, relay coordination, and SCADA/communications.
- Own the engineering design and review of MV electrical systems from the substation to the data center, including MV feeders, switchgear, transformers, distribution topology, sectionalization, redundancy, and equipment sizing for large AI loads.
- Take responsibility for assigned transmission-line and utility interconnection engineering, including HV line routing, conductor selection, thermal and short-circuit requirements, insulation coordination, clearances, and utility/ISO interconnection requirements.
- Develop and evaluate N+1, 2N, and other high-reliability electrical architectures for large AI data center loads, considering load growth, rapid load changes, scalability, and future campus expansion.
- Own the technical evaluation of utility and ISO/RTO requirements for large AI data center loads, including interconnection requirements, power quality, voltage/frequency performance, fault ride-through, ramp-rate/load-change requirements, reactive power, power factor, harmonics, flicker, protection, and system stability.
- Evaluate the impact of AI load profiles, rapid load changes, and large load blocks on the utility grid and coordinate with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and system studies teams to develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Own assigned electrical engineering scope for the integration of gas-fired generation, emergency/standby generation, microgrids, BESS/UPS, and other onsite power sources supporting data center reliability and grid requirements.
- Review generator electrical interfaces, generator step-up transformers, MV/HV interconnection, paralleling systems, protection, controls, synchronization, black start, islanding, load shedding, and operating modes.
- Manage and technically review electrical system studies including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, dynamic studies, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonics, power quality, grounding, and reliability/availability assessments.
- Develop and maintain HV/MV electrical design standards and guidelines for data center projects, including equipment specifications, substation architectures, utility interconnection requirements, protection philosophies, redundancy, and commissioning requirements.
- Provide technical leadership within the assigned scope for equipment selection and vendor design reviews covering HV/MV transformers, GIS/AIS switchgear, breakers, protection systems, generators, MV switchgear, UPS/BESS, and associated controls and communications.
- Own the review and completion of electrical engineering deliverables from concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operation, including SLDs, equipment specifications, studies, protection settings, layouts, cable schedules, and construction drawings.
- Coordinate directly with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, EPCs, engineering consultants, OEMs, and data center customers to resolve technical issues and drive assigned electrical scope to completion.
- Provide technical direction to consultants and engineering partners within the assigned HV/MV scope and ensure deliverables meet project requirements, applicable codes, utility requirements, and SBE standards.
- Support commissioning and energization of HV/MV systems, including substations, transmission infrastructure, protection and control systems, generators, MV distribution, and data center electrical systems.
