About the Role

We're seeking an entrepreneurial Management Liability Practice Lead to build and scale a profitable book of business from the ground up as part of our growing Specialty Lines team.

Working closely with our Head of Specialty, you will drive product development, establish wholesale broker relationships, and eventually assemble a team to support future growth. This fully remote role offers total autonomy to leverage your underwriting expertise and industry network while collaborating with internal tech, actuarial, and operations teams to challenge traditional insurance norms. The actual job title can be tailored to your specific experience.

What You'll Do:

  • Proven E&S Underwriter – Demonstrate 10+ years of wholesale E&S management liability experience, managing both primary and excess offerings for long-term portfolio profitability.
  • Player-Coach Leader – Balance desk-level underwriting and broker development with the ability to recruit talent and negotiate reinsurance treaties.
  • Analytical Portfolio Manager – Utilize qualitative data, class-of-business trends, and venue dynamics to drive strategic, risk-differentiated decision-making.
  • Master Communicator – Translate complex insurance concepts into persuasive presentations for both technical and non-technical external stakeholders.
  • MGA & Startup Ready – Thrive in a fast-paced environment where holding an E&S broker's license and having delegated authority experience gives you a head start.

Requirements

Must Haves:

  • 10+ Years Wholesale E&S Experience: Proven track record of building and managing a profitable management liability book across both primary and excess offerings.
  • Player-Coach Leadership: Strong desk-level underwriting skills paired with the ability to recruit quality talent and drive broker relationships.
  • Technical Portfolio Management: In-depth knowledge of underwriting practices, using qualitative/quantitative data to evaluate venue, class, and emerging market trends.
  • Advanced Communication & EQ: Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Startup Adaptability: High comfort level with ambiguity, wearing multiple hats, and collaborating humbly in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves:

  • MGA & Delegated Authority Experience: Prior exposure to working within an MGA or delegated underwriting authority structure.
  • Reinsurance Expertise: Established reinsurance treaty relationships and hands-on experience with treaty negotiations.
  • Licensing: Active Surplus Lines/E&S Broker's License(s) (or willingness to obtain them quickly).

Compensation

Compensation:

  • The base salary range for this position is $165,000-215,000 This is a good-faith compensation range based on what Ledgebrook reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. Actual compensation may vary based on a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location.
  • Employees in this position are eligible to participate in Ledgebrook’s equity incentive program.
