About Plooto

Plooto is a fast-growing payments SaaS platform helping businesses automate and streamline their payment operations. Our Finance team plays a central role in maintaining the rigorous financial integrity that a regulated payments business demands, across multiple legal entities, currencies, and compliance frameworks.

About the Role

We're looking for a highly technical and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This role is ideal for someone with strong financial accounting fundamentals, audit experience, and a continuous improvement mindset who enjoys building scalable, efficient processes in a fast-moving environment.

You'll play a key role in supporting month-end close, financial reporting, payroll, audits, and process optimization across the organization. We're looking for someone who not only understands accounting deeply, but also actively looks for ways to improve how work gets done through automation, systems thinking, and operational efficiency.

An interest in emerging technologies, including AI and workflow automation, is considered a strong asset.

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting & Entity Management

  • Own core month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting
  • Manage the full-cycle accounts payable (AP) process, including vendor invoice coding, approvals, and payment runs
  • Prepare and review revenue recognition entries, including treatment of deferred revenue
  • Maintain and reconcile prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other balance sheet schedules, ensuring accurate amortization/depreciation and supporting documentation
  • Help maintain rigorous separation of trust (client funds) and operating accounts in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policy
  • Support financial exposure reporting related to payment losses, chargebacks, and disputes; collaborate with Risk and Operations to quantify and track losses
  • Monitor foreign exchange exposure across multi-currency entities and support hedging documentation

Compliance, Controls & Audit

  • Design and help strengthen the internal controls framework across accounting processes, with particular attention to segregation of duties and payment fund safeguarding
  • Support the year-end audit, SR&ED submission, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting obligations
  • Help ensure ASPE/IFRS compliance and assist in keeping accounting policies up to date for all entities
  • Proactively flag control gaps and support remediation efforts before they become audit findings
  • Support North American payroll operations, including payroll accounting, reconciliations, and compliance considerations

Automation & Process Efficiency

  • Support the accounting tech stack; help evaluate and optimize tools (Xero, Plooto, and beyond) to eliminate manual effort and increase accuracy
  • Partner with Business Intelligence and Engineering to help automate reconciliations, reporting, and close processes
  • Support the FinOps best-practices group, helping govern and optimize variable usage-based costs such as cloud and infrastructure spend

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management → Stakeholder Support

  • Partner with FP&A on internal and investor reporting, ensuring accounting outputs are investor-ready
  • Act as a point of contact for external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and payment processors as needed

What You Bring

  • CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA completion
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with a focus on financial accounting and audit support
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and IFRS; experience in tech or payments SaaS strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Xero, Plooto, and BI/analytics tools; advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated interest in process improvement, automation, and scalable finance operations
  • Comfort working in evolving, fast-paced environments with shifting priorities
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A natural problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Interest in AI, automation tools, or modern finance technology considered an asset

What Success Looks Like

  • Accurate, timely financial reporting and close processes
  • Strong audit readiness and technical accounting support
  • Improved efficiency through automation and process optimization
  • Reliable payroll and AP operations with strong controls and no material errors
  • A proactive approach to identifying and solving operational challenges
  • Strong working relationships with FP&A, Risk, Operations, and other cross-functional partners

Plooto is committed to building an inclusive and equitable workplace. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experiences.

In accordance with Ontario hiring requirements, accommodation is available throughout the recruitment process upon request.
